Rolling out in September, users will see a more descriptive alert when attempting to work with some locked Office files.
The new alert replaces a generic “Processing Changes” status in the OneDrive sync app with the following message:
The file is open by you or someone else. Tap or click to open file in the Office app, so we can sync it.
The message will be displayed in a situation such as the following:
- A user has made an edit to a file in an Office desktop app, finishes and closes the app, but, for some reason that edit has not synced, e.g. user is offline or OneDrive sync app is not running.
- In the meantime, another user has opened the online version of the same file in edit mode.
- The user with pending local changes comes back online. The new message will appear as a sync issue in the OneDrive sync app and will provide a clear message that the user needs to open the file in the Office app in order to resolve the sync issue.
